Agreed he is stubborn
I agree with that one. that stubbornness makes him a more annoying character than a likeable one. it's different from the perseverance shown by characters like naruto
Dude even made Hisoka to crack up lol.
He's Gon to get the milk
lmaoo
I love this comment so much
To those who dislike this episode I have a fun little nugget to think about for you.
This episode is all about showing the mentality of Gon and the Hunter association as well. There is a caveat to this whole story: This was never meant to be a physical battle and Gon was the only one who realized. What kind of battle is to be resolved without killing or a TKO? Not a physical one, I can tell you that much.
This is why Netero is seen a so nefarious by many people in the story. He uses people's expectations against them to make them look like fools and he never stops. He presented this entire contest as something that should be a physical battle with severe limitations to keep the rookies safe but ultimately the only rule is to make your opponent surrender, they could've offered their opponent money or a compelling argument or whatever as long as they got a surrender out of them. That's what being a hunter is all about: to get to your objective no matter what or how.
this one gets it hahaha I was a little frustrated too at first as I felt like it was missing something else, something more practical?, to be believable enough for me, but yeah, this actually checks out. this explanation specifically put the record straight for me, and it shed light on the (major) philosophy of hunters.
I see so that's what it is, thanks for the explanation bro
Gon is everyone's worst opponent. Out of everyone there, no one in their sane mind would actually go through Gon's lengths because the hunter license is what they want all along and not just an ego battle.
Nevertheless, this is an episode that exploits Gon's mind and foreshadows his mentality later on
I admit it was stupid of Gon for not surrendering the first round, he still had plenty of chances
this is why he is rated higher than killua, is this the first shonen you are watching!? 'cause it's one of the very basic characteristics of a shonen protagonist to not give up against a overly powered opponent and then defeat him through a couple of flashback episodes, nakama bond episodes and sheer will power.
It's part of his personality. He's not entirely logical but arguably far more stubborn.
This episode was shit. I am so angry. I was enjoying up until now but this is just crap. That ninja should have break every bone in his body. I definitely would. This is such a crap writing. So hateful and useless. I HATE IT. Just because he is MC, he can't give up. His mentality is shit. If he can't acknowledge his defeat during battles then he is no MC to me. Such a shit and arrogant bastard. Gosh I'm so mad.
I understand your point, however, I like to look at this episode as a psychological analysis towards Gon's mentality. Unlike most Shounen main characters, Gon is beyond stubborn and that's actually something very, but very worrying about him. He doesn't know how to give up. And if he "gives" up, he's straight up lying to his opponent just to let his guard down (Greed Island arc in particular). I think Hanzo saw how unfazed Gon actually was and that despite what he could've actually done to Gon, he was unsuccessful nonetheless in performing his submission. Because, after all, this fight isn't about dismembering your opponent, it's for your opponent to surrender.
In other words, for Gon to give his consent and since Gon is stubborn to death, he can simple just NOT give his consent whatsoever, even if that means having his whole body shattered and beyond broken. Do I believe this is lazy writing? I don't, because Hanzo is aware that he has failed in the particular aspect of the match where he had to make Gon admit defeat and he ultimately couldn't.
are you fucking serious!?
Unlike most shounen mc is what you say?
I am beyond disappointed like @adamrahim02
I will never give up is just a copy-paste of every single shounen mc like-naruto,goku,luffy, asta, deku, eren, natsu and many more
Even I can name all other shounen mc
This episode was poorly written
Unlike most Shounen MC??? You mean every single shounen MC instead? Lowkey disappointed he is just a copy paste of the typical "I will never give up" ,proceeds to get destroyed but wins due to luck or help. Naruto, deku, asta, eren, luffy, goku? I could name so many more other shounen MCs
Gon is a really good written character. The reason he does not give up is not because he is a MC, but because he has the mentality of a child.
Just watch the video: The Morality of Gon Freecss (Hunter X Hunter)
on youtube to see what I mean.
Yeah i think these people didnt even try to understand the mechanics that were programmed into this tournament. I enjoyed this very much, all of these interactions between characters were authentic and had logic behind, absolutely not lazy writing where characters do stuff that contradicts their previously established motives/opinions
What do you expect from people with Naruto avatars? Everything in what they watch is based around god given magic powers, so the concept of a psychological fight where strength isn't the most important thing confuses and angers them.
Couldn't have said it better. Gon acted like a 12 year old. Oh wait he is. Almost like us adults won't like a little baby being the MC. This is why I never wanted to watch HxH (even when I was in highschool). They look like babies but I finaly decided to give this a try and I hate it so far (episode 23), mostly because of bad MC and convenient writing. All Gon's enemies are sparing him because he is a kid and feel bad for him otherwise he would be dead. Think of how many bad guys in anime are psychopaths but all Gon's enemies are conveniently good guys. This is more than plot armor, this is pathetic. I'll still try to watch though for every single other good aspect of the show.
Fuck you bastard🖕
"nooooooooooo this ep is so shit, mc not giving up??? thats so stupid , ninja bald nigga should have broken gons goddamn bones, all of em bc im cool and thats what i would totally do B) istg ghon why didnt you surrdender!1!!!!1!1!1 gons the most annoying mcc!!1!1!"
oh woah , didnt expect ppl to be this blind but aight, lots of things to retort but for what ig lmfaoo
but uhh if you think gon is the worst mc and decides to drop bc of that reasoning then congratulations, you passed the school of having no brainers. clearly yall have seen too lil sht
Like you said, why even bother with such people.
One loss man
I swear this Gon nigga is SO god damn annoying, like why the fuck can't you surrender and try next fight? You're as weak as an ant compared to those people.
lets say next round he gets hisoka, he surrenders and gets killua, surenders again and gets leorio or again and gets Kurapika?
yea he was annoying here reminded me of luffy but without strength
Bad timing but random suggestion not to use God's name in vain
If I was in Hanzo’s place I might have killed Gon just out of spite for pissing me off so much damn😂😂
This is actually very entertaining and a good spin on combats. Gon won exactly how the committee wanted.
this ep is comic relief lmao
Gon is the cutest after luffy.
no they both ass
ofc the other person was the bigger man... this was so frustrating to watch... so far I liked it but man, this brought the show down a bit for me. So far prolly just BnHA is the only one that is refreshing.
stupid of me to expect more of this than normal shounen 😂 more that it was even more BS than usual xD
Hey, wait. This is actually the best Shounen out there, don't drop it yet. Get through this arc and the upcoming one, I promise it's really good.
Im not dropping it, already past ep 30 but ratings dropped for me so doubt I will ever call it the best one.. maybe best at having the most annoying MC out there because even Naruto wasnt this frustrating during chuunin exam and that says a lot :D
so far only BnHA didnt have anything stupid like this in 5 seasons so there is still hope :)
Get to the Chimera Ant arc.
Eventually I get there I guess. At this point it can only get better (I hope it wont get worse to make me drop it) if he grows as a person but because this is also part of the story I cannot rate it ever as the best one, but will see what they come up with 😉
Thanks for not dropping it! I promise you didn't make a mistake.
so did u finish it yet? did ur views change?
bnha is the worst among top shounen. so much potential and yet they fked it so bad
BnHa is the worst shounen anime for me
i will let pass that the committee allows children being beaten. but allowing killings in some instances and then disallowing it in some instances just bothers me too much. why not allow killings or non-killings all the way?
Such an annoying mc. I dropped this anime...
I'm coming again hope gon become stronger and less annoyed...
Ugh, Gon deserved that beat down
Intense episode..and GON is CUTE
He's so adorable! Him and Killua are the cutest!
this is why your dad left gon
